There are few places in the world that can boast of vibrant colonial cities situated right beside idyllic volcanic islands and un-spoilt beaches. Explore both the history and nature of Nicaragua with this Colonial holiday package.

Nicaragua Colonial TransferWhether you wish to be greeted at the airport by one of our agents, or picked up at the Costa Rican Border, with Welcome to Nicaragua you are in safe hands from the moment you arrive. On arrival at one of our many three-star hotels, you will be supplied with all the info you need for the duration of your stay, as well as details of the exciting adventures that lay ahead of you. And if your flight lands early, you can begin the adventure right away with a city tour of our capital!

Flor de Caña Nicaragua TourColonialism and the trade of sugar cane were inextricably linked. It seems colonial conquerors quickly acquired a taste for a certain sugar cane product that is still very popular today: rum! Chinandega is known as the City of Rum and produces two world famous varieties of rum: Flor the Caña and Tour Flor de Caña. You’ll visit the National Liquor Company where raw sugar cane is converted into delicious rum that even the most discerning of pirates would love!

Cathedral Basilica Assumption LeonLeón offers everything you would hope to find in a colonial city, and more! It’s filled with beautiful churches, art collections and streetscapes that photographers dream about. The colonial imprint left by European settlers is mixed with the unmistakable energy of Central America, making León an authentic and charming city that tourists fall in love with every year. Day Three of the Nicaragua Colonial package is a day of exploring the many museums as well the famous Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption of León, a prized World Heritage Site. We recommend strolling through the streets by day and enjoying the cosmopolitan eateries and vibrant nightlife as the sun sets.

Volcano Boarding Cerro NegroAfter soaking up some culture in the city it’s time to escape to more natural surroundings. León is just a stone’s throw away from some beautiful beaches and a spectacular nature reserve. A visit to Peñitas Beach, a quant Pacific fishing village, is the perfect opportunity for a day of relaxation. Here you’ll see local fishermen going about their daily life on pristine sandy beaches. There’s even volcano boarding available for the very adventurous and nature lovers can appreciate the Juan Venado Nature Reserve, where (depending on the time of year) you might be lucky enough to see baby turtles emerging from the turtle hatchery!

Ometepe Island Volcanoes SunsetLake Nicaragua is often referred to as a “freshwater sea” due to its sheer size. At its center, two volcanoes rise dramatically from the water, and are joined together to form Ometepe Island. As the ferry approaches you will already begin to notice the lush landscape and rich greenery that covers the island. Due to the diversity of natural life and activities that Ometepe offers, it has become a must-see destination in Nicaragua. However the boat journey makes it just that little bit more difficult to get to, so it’s not overrun with tourists. Upon arrival you will visit the local museum and learn the fascinating history of this beautiful volcanic island.

Ojo de Agua Ometepe IslandOmetepe never fails to impress, and there’s something for everyone located on these volcanic twin peaks. Crystalline freshwater pools, beautiful beaches, rainforests, nature reserves, an abundance of wildlife, waterfalls and archaeological sites are just some of the attractions of Ometepe, while activities range from hiking, kayaking and horse-riding to fishing, zip-lining and cultural excursions. A swim in the Ojo de Agua (spring waters) is a must while you’re on the island. The presence of volcanic rock means the water contains a number of beneficial minerals, making it the perfect place for a healthy and relaxing swim.

Granada Colonial City TourThe colonial city of Granada is filled with the remnants of a number of historical epochs, brought to life by the cosmopolitan city life that is very much “now”. It’s pretty but not polished, which is exactly why people love it. Imagine awe-inspiring colonial buildings and funky street art co-existing harmoniously, that’s Granada! The city has also survived a number of pirate invasions since it was founded in the 16th century, but picturesque streets and churches have thankfully survived to tell the tale! Your tour of Granada promises to be insightful and thought-provoking, revealing why makes this city so special.
