Whether you wish to be greeted at the airport by one of our agents, or picked up at the Costa Rican Border, with Welcome to Nicaragua you are in safe hands from the moment you arrive. On arrival at one of our many three-star hotels, you will be supplied with all the info you need for the duration of your stay, as well as details of the exciting adventures that lay ahead of you! And if your flight lands early, you can begin the adventure right away with a city tour of our capital!
It’s time to leave Managua and head to the enchanting city of León. Along the way you will stop off at the “Old Center” just outside the city, a historical area filled with monuments, churches, cathedrals and parks. Once you’ve arrived in León you will spend the afternoon on a City Tour, which takes in the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption as well as the many awe-inspiring churches and famous heritage sites.
How you spend Day Three of your Deluxe Nicaragua tour is up to you, with a choice on interesting activities. You might like to visit San Jacinto mud pools for a relaxing and invigorating session in Mother nature’s spa, or take a tour to the Rum Flor de Caña factory to see how this world-famous rum is made. Wildlife and nature enthusiasts can visit the island of Juan Venado to explore the mangroves and try to spot some turtles, while history lovers would prefer a visit to the world heritage site of León Viejo. And if none of the above suit a trip to the Asososca Crater Lake comes highly recommended! Whatever your personal preference León and it’s surrounding areas mean no traveller leaves disappointed.
From one colonial city to another, on the next day of the tour you will head towards Granada, where you will visit the infamous Masaya Volcano along the way. The Masaya Volcano National Park consists of two volcanoes and five craters, and is conveniently located on the journey from León to Granada. Marvel at one of nature’s most violent and awe-inspiring creations, and find out why Spanish conquerors christened this volcano “The Mouth of Hell”. This volcano is a place of drama and unique natural beauty surrounded by incredible flora and fauna. Observing the molten lava as it bubbles and flows makes it easy to see how the volcano earned it’s name, and why both indigenous people and newcomers feared it so!
From flowing land to flowing seas, the second half of your day will see you visit the Granada Islets, an archipelago formed thousands of years ago by the Mombacho volcano. An evening sky full of colour makes for the perfect backdrop to appreciate these beautiful tiny islands and take some wonderful photos. Once the sun has set it’s time to head back towards the city for a night’s rest before tomorrow’s adventure.
Day Five begins with a City Tour of Granada, as no trip to Nicaragua would be complete without it! Granada is the perfect city to get lost in. It was the first European city of mainland America, and is just as charming as it’s sister city of León, albeit in a different way. The elegant architecture tells of its colonial heritage and European ties, while the vibrant atmosphere and year-round warm weather make it unmistakably Nicaraguan.
It’s then time to escape the city and head to the natural paradise of Apoyo Lagoon. Frequently referred to as the most stunning site in Nicaragua, the Apoyo Lagoon is a nature reserve with a difference. This magical freshwater lagoon is situated in the crater of a dormant volcano, encircled by trees, foliage and animals. The water is clear and temperate, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing and refreshing swim, yet it’s big enough to allow for water sports without damaging the natural habitat.
Ometepe never fails to impress. The diversity of the island itself and the activities available mean that there’s something for everyone located on these volcanic twin peaks. Crystalline freshwater pools, beautiful beaches, rainforests, nature reserves, an abundance of wildlife, waterfalls and archaeological sites are just some of the attractions of Ometepe. It’s the perfect place to relax by the pool or go exploring at your own pace.
Choose to explore Ometepe the way you want to, with a variety of activities on offer. You may wish to hike up the Concepción or Maderas Volcano, or go kayaking through Istian Wetlands and visit the San Ramon Waterfall. Horse-riding fishing, zip-lining and are also great options for the adventurous, or why not go for a swim in the Ojo de Agua? The minerals in these spring waters offer a number of health benefits and will leave you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed.
After a ferry ride from San Jorge Port to San Juan Del Sur will see you the colossal statue known as “The Christ of the Mercy”. This enormous statue of Jesus Christ towers over the village at 134 meters high and points south. You’ll be heading North however, to Playa Ocotal, a jewel of beach regarded as one of Nicaragua’s most beautiful surfing spots. Sloths and howler monkeys must agree, as they’ve been known to hang out in the trees nearby. Here you will be staying at the Morgan’s Rock Hacienda & Eco Lodge, an exotic retreat located just beside the shore where massages and exquisite meals are a daily occurrence. Fall asleep in one of the cozy bungalows as you listen to the waves crashing outside.
Enjoy your last day in the paradise on Majagual Beach. Why not begin your morning with a sunrise yoga session as you gaze out to the sea?! You’ll find these steep sands very often deserted, and this secluded beach is dotted only with beach huts and hammocks. You can choose to participate in a number of off-site excursions, but if you wish to stay in the area we recommend hiking to some of the great lookout spots, or watching a stunning sunset over the Pacific with a glass of wine in hand. Again you’ll be staying at the Morgan’s Rock Hacienda & Eco Lodge so why not treat yourself to a delicious last meal and soak up every last moment of the deluxe Nicaraguan experience.
